Leadership Management and Defence Studies A pathway to third level education What it's about: The Leadership Management and Defence Studies Programme (LMDS) allows soldiers to have their career learning recognised through external accreditation with third level education. The credits that are built up through the programme will ensure that members of the Permanent Defence Forces have qualifications which will enhance their job prospects on leaving the DF. The credits are part of the European Credit Transfer System and are internationally recognised for higher education opportunities. It allows a soldier or airman to be recognised and accredited while progressing through their career. Notes to Unit Orderly Rooms: • The WBLP should be treated in the same manner as the LA30. • It should be signed out when necessary by students and signed back in. • A unit Focal Point has been designated in every formation/unit in the DF. The Focal Point is the main point of contact for information regarding LMDS. To find who your Focal Point is, log on to IKON. • Focal Points are there to assist and mentor students with WBLP's. WBLP & Recognition of Prior Learning: The WBLP is open to 3* soldiers who have completed 3* star training from Sept. 2012 onward. This allows them to access the LMDS programme. For those enlisted prior to this date, the programme is available through the RPL (recognition of prior learning) document. Both documents require students to demonstrate the learning that they have undergone in the course of their work • Units will provide assistance for soldiers and airmen to complete WBLP's. • BTC's will co-ordinate submission and correction of WBLP's and RPL's. • The Military Admin School and NCO Training Wing will co-ordinate RPL's and learning at Level 7.
