Defence Forces Newsletter www.military.ie Maternity Wear CLOTHING Above, are the new items of maternity wear. They have a number of features which make them suitable for service in the Defence Forces, including fully adjustable, elasticated waists. Contact your CQ to enquire about issuance. Layering System The layering system above and the materials used are designed to help the Irish soldier carry out operations across a range of climates and conditions. The effectiveness of the system is dependent on proper use by the individual. The additional items of kit such as headover, scarf e.t.c. compliment these layers. Care instructions are located on the tags and are different for each item. The kit issue here is part of the Defence Forces 'Soldier 2009 Programme', which is due to replace the existing uniform with a much more technical approach. This has come about by way of a change in clothing manufacturing technology and the introduction of new types of materials. It is expect- ed that this project will be available for military personnel to wear in 2012. The annual cost in this area of procurement is in the region of €1m annually. Defend Protect Support Shown here on the left are the new items of kit that will be avail- able. It includes headover, scarf, gaiters, carry bag and laundry bag.
