19 not about being super strong, it's about knowing yourself. That's the key value to me. I think that comes from watching them. The last few series we have done have shown that more. Its evolving, now, do we still do the same tests? Do we still kill them as much?... Absolutely. We film more, well the production team use more of the mindset stuff and maybe you know, less of the "bite your head off" stuff. Again, it came as a surprise, it wasn't a plan, I tried it out, I thought it would be a one off, and look 'here I am', we have done 5 series now. Q. Was it a big adjustment working on the televi- sion compared to the Army? The show itself, no. We go into "D.S. mode" the same as when we are in the Ranger Wing. To be honest we don't notice the cameras. Students don't notice the cameras after the first two hours. They forget about them, as there is so much going on in front of you. The hamster, for them, is going so fast that they don't even see the cameras. For us, we get back into zone of being an ARW instruc- tor on a selection course, so the transition is easy. Now after all that, like you know, people know who you are…you are in Tesco, doing your shopping and someone recognises you and they want a selfie or something. That's great too. People are very positive about it, and they enjoy it. It shows the Army in a different light. We are not just people who give assistance to the airport, we serve over- seas in a mission that no one really hears about. People see how hard the training is for all of us INTERVIEW WITH RAY GOGGINS Charity Event Ray's Book Ranger 22
