This issue brings us to our second last magazine of 2022. We hope you enjoy reading the An Cosantóir magazine and will continue to enjoy it into 2022. Our Noticeboard page this issue, features an advertisement on the upcoming An Cosantóir 10KM road race which will take place on the 12th October 2022 in the Phoenix Park. On Parade features pictures from 1 Mech- anised Infantry Company on a Training Ex- ercise, Air Corps Veterans Day 2022, the 1st NATO Homemade Explosives International Workshop and the Dublin Horse Show 2022. In our first feature by Comdt Colin Roche, 'TU (Technological University) Dublin Con- tinuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme Diploma and Certificates in Safety Management Level 7', Comdt Roche describes the programme available to personnel to acquire a certification that is accredited by TU in Risk and Safety man- agement. Moving on to our second feature article, 'Irish Air Corps 100th Anniversary to be celebrated in miniature. IPMS Ireland announces special award to recognise centenary of the Air Corps'. IPMS Ireland was formed in 2008 and represents the Republic of Ireland within the world- wide network of The International Plastic Modellers' Society (IPMS) which itself was founded in the UK in 1963. IPMS Ireland has more than 100 members from Ireland and overseas and is part of the global IPMS network which has more than 70 branches around the world. IPMS Ireland has two local chapters/ branches, Dublin and Mid-West (Limerick), and our club members build and paint everything from standard plastic construc- tion kits (e.g., Airfix, Revell) to complicated, scratch-built models, using plastic as the primary medium. Their meetings are held at local venues on a monthly basis. The hobby covers building scale models of aircraft and vehicles both civilian and military, ships and submarines, historical figures and busts, dioramas and science fiction / fantasy subjects. 'The 21st Confidence Training Instructors Course' give us an insight from a students persepective of what is involved throughout the course and why they choose to do this course. In this feature we hear from Cpl Sarah Nolan, S/Lt John Smithers, Capt Tim Quinlan and Lt Colm Layton. Moving on to 'Emergency Accommodation Gormanston Camp', Comdt Ruaidhri Kedney ex- plains how 2 Bde was tasked with supplying a 'Emergency Accommodation Reception Centre (EARC) for Beneficiaries of Temporary Protec- tion (BOTP) fleeing the conflict in Ukraine. An 'Interview with Ray Goggins' by Cpl Lee Coyle, looks into Ray's career in the Defence Forces and how his life changed when he left the Defence Forces. Ray talks about his time as head DS on 'Special Forces, Ultimate Hell Week', his book 'Ranger 22' and also charity work that he is involved with. Special Forces, Ultimate Hell Week', returned to our screens on the 7th September 2022 on RTÉ One. We look forward to watching Ray and also the rest of the DS staff who are all ex-members of The Ranger Wing. 'Irish Air Corps No 3 Operations Wing' by Pte (AR)Lukasz Gancarz looks back at the involve- ment of the Air Corps during the 'Big Freeze' in 1963-1964, and how they continue to provide to the public and An Garda Síochána. Our final feature 'Defence Forces Ladies Soccer Make History' by 2/Lt Zara Bolger talks about the involvement of the DF Ladies Soccer Team in the 13th CISM Military World Games that took place in Spokane, Washington State, USA. We, as an organisation, are very proud of all the Ladies and management, and wish them the best of luck in future games. 'Back to the Future' by Comdt Séan Murphy, is our "From the Archives" piece. This article is from Volume 72, Issue 07, of September 2012, looks back at the Infantry School's Professional Reading Programme and why you would read about Military Affairs.. As always, we have our regular features in- cluding PSS, continuing to provide vital mental health advice in 'Headspace and Timing' as well as our 'Internal Comms' piece for all the serving soldiers who read the magazine, and not forgetting our book reviews on page 34.
