Once the military parade was completed, GOC DFTC
departed the parade ground. After the formalities of
the parade, the extended Curragh Camp community
then moved to a vehicle and equipment display with
refreshments. Finally, Brig Gen McGuinness and the
family of Lt Gen J. J. O'Connell unveiled a memorial
plaque commemorating the handover of the Curragh
Camp.
As the extended community of the Curragh Camp
socialised below the Irish tricolour, they remembered the
party of Irish troops who first marched into the Curragh
Camp on 16th May 1922. The family of the Curragh
Camp gathered in common name to celebrate the
sacrifices, made at all hazards, over the past 100 years.
