HANDOVER CEREMONY OF SARSFIELD BARRACKS
for their commitment behind the
scenes, on which foundation, the
efforts of our soldiers rest.
Attendees of note at the parade
were GOC 1 Bde Brig Gen Brian
Cleary, Local Councillors, community
leaders, retired local GOCs, IUNVA,
ONE, An Garda Síochána and soldiers
families. In attracting such a large,
diverse audience, the event became
a community affair.
The ceremonial
aspect drew to a
close at 1100 hrs
and was followed
by an open day
which included
weapons and
capability displays.
The significant
local support which attended
enhanced the atmosphere on the
day, with coverage on Defence
Forces, and local authorities' media
channels. Whilst the centenary
celebrations were led by the 12 Inf
Bn, the tremendous involvement and
engagement from the people
of Limerick ensured that the day was
an event befitting of the occasion.
