he fourth International
Conference of the
Military Welfare
History Network (MWHN)
took place from 9-11
July 2025 in the historic
and vibrant city of Graz,
Austria.
When I first joined the
MWHN, graciously invited by
Dr Paul Huddie (University
College Dublin) back in
2023, I had little idea that
this scholarly journey would
take me to Austria. Over the
course of three intensive
days, I've gained invaluable
insights, deepened my
understanding of military
welfare history in Europe
and beyond, and proudly
represented both Ireland and
our Military Archives.
A word of thanks is due
to the organisers: Paul
Huddie, Heidrun Zettelbauer,
Viktoria Wind, Sabine
Haring-Mosbacher, Sabine
Jesner and Sarai Lenzberger.
From the comprehensive
delegate information pack to
the warm welcome extended
at the University, the high
quality catering, and above
all, the exceptional calibre of
discussion, the experience
was faultless. This was a
conference that set a high
bar.
