SPORTS & CLUBS UPDATE SPORTS & CLUBS UPDATE HURLING The DF Inter Bde hurling competition took place in The Faithful fields Offaly GAA centre of excellence on September 24th. Over 60 Hurlers were involved representing all units and formations. 4 x teams competed for the DF hurling Inter Bde and an inaugural competition, the Pte Gerard McMahon Cup, which was donated by his friends and colleagues from the 1st Inf Bn and the 63rd Inf Group UNDOF. Pte McMahon tragically passed away in 2021. The winners of the Inter Bde were 1 Bde, and the 3 Inf Bn won the Pte Gerard McMahon Cup which was presented by his parents Pat and Carmel. Look forward - the upcoming DF Rep series versus AIB in Hawkfield, the Kildare GAA centre of excellence, on the 19th of November. There will be a match versus the Gardaí (AGS) which will take place in Semple Stadium on the 03rd of November. Also, in December the DF team will travel to London to play the London senior hurling team. JIU-JITSU The Defence Forces Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) team competed in the national BJJ tournament in Blanchardstown TU on Sunday 28th of September with 22 soldiers from the Air Corps, Army and Navy taking part. They won 30 medals overall, a very successful day out. DF DIVE GROUP The Defence Forces Dive Group held the continuation dive camp in Collins Barracks, Cork. The objective of the camp was to upskill personnel who had recently completed the Basic Dive Course. Club divers experienced a range of dive training scenarios including an introduction to full face mask diving, a visit to the Naval Service Diving Section and RHIB training. The camp culminated with a dive on a German WW1 submarine in Cork harbour. Contact us through the Connect app if you're interested in "try-a-dive" experience with the DFDG.
