T
his year's summer was unforgettable, with clear skies for weeks and no rain. However, this also resulted in wildfires across the country, resulting in
the Air Corps utilising their aerial firefighting capabilities to conduct 23 aerial firefighting missions to six locations around Ireland in the month of
July alone. Also, in this edition Capt Curran and Sgt Maher take us through No. 3 Ops Wing's capabilities and challenges faced by personnel during
a busy summer. As capabilities and personnel change, the basics remain the same, and a four-week training programme was required for 28 Inf Bn's
winning platoon on the Infantry Skills Competition, Lt Bonner breaks down the weeks of training leading to 28 Inf Bn's second victory in a row. With
articles on interoperability, unit pride and cultural change, this edition really shows the variety across the organisation, from the Naval Service working
at sea to the City Battle Runs on the streets with 7 Inf Bn. And with much more throughout the edition, we hope you enjoy this issue of An Cosantóir.
"Óglaigh na hÉireann has been the people, is the people and will be the people. Our
green uniform does not make us less people. It is a cloak of our service, a curtailer of
our weaknesses, an amplifier of our strengths." — General Richard Mulcahy
