www.military.ie THE DEFENCE FORCES MAGAZINE BQ Billy Bohane in the Military College offered the course an opportunity to view the new Integrated Modular Body Armour Systems (IMBAS), giving us an appreciation of the impending logistical challenges around storing and issuing this new equipment. However, it was the accountancy of ammunition, clothing forms and Boards of Survey protocols that were the primary focus of this block, followed by exams on the correct formatting of the necessary paperwork of these processes. This was followed by Fire Warden and Energy Management modules conducted by the Engineering School with more exams ensuing, this time qualifying students as fire wardens and energy managers. The block concluded with informative and thought-provoking seminars on Leadership, Culture and Governance delivered by BSM David O'Reilly, ending with one more exam on the Defence Forces Leadership Doctrine. Block 2 Block two required presenting to McKee Barracks in June for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) training. CQMS Noel Murphy welcomed the students to the School of Catering and he and his team of instructors provided the students with unique insights into food preparation and food safety. To the fore of our training was the Quartermaster's role in ensuring troops, both in barracks and on the ground, were sustained in a safe and compliant manner to ensure they remained fit to continue with the Mission. By the end of the three-day block twenty-two students went away with a level 2 qualification in HACCP and a glossy certificate to show. Block 3 It was back to the Curragh in September for the final block of FTT, this time to the Ordnance School for training in ammunition handling. Sgt Luke Farrell took students through the safe handling of ammunition, the correct procedures for storing and transporting ammunition and provided a detailed and guided tour of the Ordnance Depot. The students then completed their final exam which required a 70% pass rate to secure an ammunition handling and safety skill. Capt Eoghan Dunne and the Ordnance School staff provided an impressive demonstration on detonators and explosive charges. Conclusion and Acknowledgments The course concluded on 11 September with twenty-two students completing and passing all modules. These students received the following skills upon completion of the course: 1. RDF Senior NCO Logistician. 2. Unit Fire Warden. 3. Energy Warden. 4. Energy Manager. 5. Unit Operational Safety Representative. 6. Ammunition Handler. 7. Food Safety. 8. Logistics Food Management. Throughout the training year, a number of students requested permission to shadow their unit's CQMS outside of programme time (OPT) when available. This OPT afforded students the opportunity to develop their newly acquired skills in a practical manner, gaining experience with the Management Information System (MIF) and the Combat Service Support (CSS) functions of Manning, Arming, Fuelling, Fixing and Moving. The students of the 1st RDF Senior NCO Logistics Course would like to thank their OCs and Quartermasters for facilitating and providing them with these mentoring opportunities. Of course, the course would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the instructors and staff of the Military Administration School, Engineering School, Catering School, Ordnance School and the Course OIC, Capt (AR) Neil Richardson. We hope you enjoyed delivering the course as much as we did participate. Our final thanks are to the dedicated logistics staff within the DFTC and McKee Barracks who provided the support required to deliver the course. With our newly acquired logistical eyes we appreciate the enormous work undertaken daily to support 'the Mission'.
