ello and welcome to our November issue, where we celebrate the 100th anniversary of
the Irish Volunteers Óglaigh na hÉireann. In this issue many of your photos are included
in our On Parade gallery. Our In Focus pages feature stories from Fort Dunree Museum in
Donegal, the 36th Cadet Class who where the 'First and Original Kennedy Cadets' in Arbour
Hill in 1963, and the visit of the University of Washington students who visited the DF recently
to hear about our experiences on peace-support operations. In one of our main features we
hear about the members of the National Stores Reception Centre (NSRC), or who are better
known as 'MovCon' (Movement Control) from Wesley Bourke. In our other main feature we
receive an update on the UNDOF Mission Deployment from Capt James O'Hara (PIO UNDOF).
We have some shorter pieces with the 40th Anniversary of the 27 Inf Bn, the UN Memorial
in Letterkenny, the recent PDFORRA ADC in Wexford and finally In Memory of an Aviator Madeleine C O'Rourke (1951–2006), making this a well packed issue. In our Strategic Review,
Wesley Bourke updates us on a UN mission the DF have been part of for over 50 years Observer
Group Lebanon (OGL). Our In Reserve features the recent RDF Transport Corps Standard Officer
and NCOs Course by Cpl Frank Nolan (Res, Tpt Sch, DFTC). In our History pages we have part
one of our reprinted feature The Birth of an Army: The Formation of Óglaigh na hÉireann 19131915 by CQMS Gerry White and Lt Col Brendan O'Shea. In Sport we have the results and photos
from last month's An Cosantóir 10K Roadrace and a small piece on the recent DF Vs RAF ladies
soccer match. Plus our other regular features – World Strategic Picture, Tac-Aide, Gear Review,
Noticeboard, Reviews and What I Do.
