Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to DFAA, PR Branch and the organising committee and everyone that helped out on the day to make this year's race another very successful event. It has become a tradition also for our larger overseas units to hold their own race to coincide with the Cosantóir 10k. Here is an account of two such events. UNDOF 10k By Capt James O'Hara (PIO, 43 Inf Gp) Crossing the start line in Camp Faouar, On Tuesday, October 1st, 43 Golan Heights. Infantry Group, UNDOF, held a 10km road race in Camp Fouar, on the Golan Heights in Syria. Despite the 30°C temperatures, a total of 70 personnel participated in the race, which was a great success. Indeed, the event may well have helped many Irish to acclimatise to the intheatre weather conditions. The winner of the race was Pte Paul White (28 Inf Bn), who finished in a time of 40:07. In 2nd place was Cpl Paul Clarke (6 Inf Bn) in a time of 42:21, and 3rd place went to Pte Pádraig Buckley (7 Inf Bn) with a time of 43:08. The event was organised by Lt Lisa McMahon, ably assisted by Cpl Derek Nugent and Cpl Claire Powell. UNIFIL 10k By Capt Mark Conway (PIO, 108 IrishFinn Bn) The start of 108 IrishFinn Bn's Cosantóir 10k Over 180 members of the Defence Forces participated alongside their Belgian and Finnish colleagues in a 10k road race at UN Post 2-45 in South Lebanon, held to coincide with the Cosantóir 10k in Ireland. The individual winner was Lt James Ledingham, coming across the line in an impressive time of 34:27, despite a hilly course and temperatures that reached a searing 30°C. The block event was won by Recce Coy. Well done to all involved! An Cosantóir November 2013 www.dfmagazine.ie
