visit us at www.military.ie ReSuLTS OF 1 S BDe SMALL ARMS SHOOTInG COMPeTITIOn 15 APR 2014 UNIFIL MARATHON M embers of the 42 INF GP, 213 FINNIRISH BATT along with their Belgian colleagues completed a full marathon on 10 May 14 from UNP2-45 At-Tiri to UNIFIL HQ, Naqoura, South Leba- non in aid of the Clo- dagh Daly Charity. Clodagh was born on the 31 Oct 12 and at five weeks old was diag- nosed with a rare form of cancer most com- monly found in young kids called Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. The 42 INF GP runners raised over $3500 for this excellent cause. The programme will involve liaising with public transport to explore new options of getting to work and promoting self-sustainable methods of getting to Casement Aerodrome. As a partner in the pro- gramme, they commit to undertake the following with assistance from the National Transport Authority: survey employees on their commut- ing habits; encourage employees to use more sustainable transport; develop and implement an action plan of sustainable travel initiatives; support personnel to implement the action plan by giving support to a cross-functional team; Dedicate financial and non-financial resources to supporting initiatives; monitor the performance of the action plan. The cert of acceptance was signed by Gerry Murphy (Chief Executive, National Transport Authority) and Brig Gen Paul Fry, GOC Air Corps, who is pictured here signing the cert and witnessed by Lt Col Mick Moran, OC No 4 Support Wing. The National Transport Authority operates the Smarter Travel Work- places programme on behalf of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, supporting large employers to encourage more sustain- able commuting and travel choices amongst their staff. By the end of 2012, over 100 workplaces in both the public and private sectors were engaged in the scheme, involving over 250,000 individuals. Some of the partners of the programme include: Cork City Council, Dublin Institute of Technology, ESB, Eirgrid, Microsoft, NUI Galway, Pfizer, Trinity College Dublin, Vodafone and now the Air Corps. Kildare M inister of State for the Department of Defence and Government Chief Whip, Paul Kehoe T.D, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Conor O'Boyle, reviewed the troops of the 45th Infantry Group on Friday the 09th of May in the Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare. Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Campion, originally from Roscommon, the 181 troops of the 45th Infantry Group had been in training for the a number of weeks before they deployed on their six month tour of duty to south Lebanon on the 20th of May with the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Drawn primarily from the Defence Forces Training Centre in the Curragh, augmented by personnel from the Air Corps and Naval Service, the 45th Infantry Group replaced the 42nd Infantry Group who were deployed in November of last year. The ceremonial occasion consisted of a parade, Ministerial Inspection and an ad- dress by Paul Kehoe T.D, followed by a march past within the barracks. The parade was attended by the families of the members of the 45th Infantry Group and invited guests.
