A 1-minute silence was observed in respect of our An Garda Síochána colleague
Garda Tony Golden who tragically lost his life in the line duty last week.
Col Jim Burns J7, said in his address to the large number of personnel gathered in
the gymnasium, "We are not only here for the sport, but for the enjoyment it involves
and to meet friends and other DF members." He continued, "I challenge you to get
more involved in your chosen sport, get on a committee, and encourage more of the
younger members of the DF to get involved in sport." He thanked all those involved
in making it another great event.
The two main sponsors again this year were Friends First and ANSAC Credit Union,
and we thank them kindly for their continued support. Well done to all who took
part and a big thank you to all who put the graft into making the event what it is, in
particular the organising committee, the An Cosantóir/Information Office, the De-
fence Forces Athletics Association (DFAA), and all those who gave a hand on the day.
