On Easter Sunday 27th March 2016, President Michael D. Higgins laid a wreath in the Stone Breaker's Yard in Kilmain-
ham Gaol, the execution site of the 1916 leaders. This ceremony was later followed by wreath-laying, a reading of the
proclamation and a Guard of Honour from the Defence Forces' Cadet School in front of the GPO to commemorate the
centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising. This ceremony concluded with the National Anthem being played by the Defence
Forces Band, and a flypast by the Air Corps. A Parade then began from St. Stephen's Green and travelled via Dublin
Castle and up O'Connell Street. Involved were over 3,700 Defence Forces personnel, including Veteran Associations
members, 78 vehicles, 13 aircraft and 5 Army Equitation School Horses.
