In
the
aermath

the
1916
Easter
Rising,
Dublin
city
lay
in
ruins.
Aer
a
series
of
court
martials,
the
seven
signatories
of
the
proclamation
as
well
as
prominent
Republican
Commanders
were
sentenced
to
death
and
executed
by
firing
squad,
many
of
them
in
the
stone
breakers'
yard
of
Kilmainham
Gaol.
Others
were
sentenced
to
be
deported.

marched
through
the
streets
of
Dublin
to
the
docks.

received
cheers
and
