O
n the occasion of Bastille Day
this year, friends, partners,
and members of the French
community were welcomed to the
Résidence de France (53 Ailesbury
Road), which has recently reopened
following extensive renovations.
The celebration featured a special
exhibition entitled "At Home in
Ireland", showcasing the work of
photographer Conor McCabe. This
exhibition celebrated 25 French
nationals residing in Ireland: farmers,
artists, engineers, doctors, chefs,
journalists, educators, and one
archivist (!), highlighting the diverse
and valuable contributions of the
French community, and celebrating
the enduring bonds between France
and Ireland.
It was a true privilege to participate.
Representing the Military Archives
is always an honour, and it was
particularly gratifying to see so many
familiar faces in attendance, including
several in uniform.
I was especially pleased to share our
portrait with Elise Martin-Vignerte
(policy advisor and lawyer) and
Stéphane Duclot (Director of Service -
Limerick City and County Council).
I extend my sincere thanks to Her
Excellency Céline Place, Ambassadrice
of France in Ireland, for her kind
invitation and for the eloquence and
thoughtfulness of her remarks on the
day.
Warm thanks are also due to those
who brought this event to life,
particularly Conor McCabe for his
remarkable photography, as well as
Jeanne Vidberg, Lucile Mazauric, Olga
Bourderau, and many others behind
the scenes.
