Our main focus this month is on technology and health; looking at communications, cyber security, security technology, mental health, and health and safety in the DF. Your photographs On Parade came from Cork, the Curragh, Dublin, the Golan Heights and Bosnia and Herzegovina, while In Focus are the New Transport Workshops for James Stephens Barracks. This is followed by a look at how former DF members are making technological advancements while Providing 21st Century Security. Our Veterans' News looks back to the 2nd and 12th Army Apprentice School platoons whose members are celebrating their respective 60th and 50th anniversaries. Our first main feature looks at the Ordnance Corps' annual exercise that puts Engineer Specialist Search and Clearance (ESSC) teams through varied and highly realistic scenarios. Next, we have a two-star course from 3 Inf Bn who conducted a tri-service tactical exercise, 'Céim Deireanach'. Comdt Conor Ryan then advises us on the importance of H&S with an introduction to Defence Forces Health, Safety & Welfare Week 2017, which is 13th – 17th November. Three reports on recent annual conferences start with PDFORRA's in Cavan, where over 200 delegates attended. Later, we cover ONE's ADC in Limerick and IUNVA's in Mayo, both of which focused on veterans' affairs. Next, we have an extended feature on Psychological Health in the Defence Forces, written by a number of DF experts who go through all the different options available to DF personnel seeking advice and assistance. For our In Reserve feature, Sgt John Sargent (RDF) briefs us on the recent Regimental Signals Course conducted by 2 Bde CIS Coy for RDF and PDF students under the single-force concept. Our history feature, On the One Road: crossing the Blackwater, 1942, looks at the 75th anniversary of the largest ever military manoeuvres held in Ireland. We also have four pages of sport, starting with an international ladies' soccer friendly between the DF and the RAF. This is followed by a report on the largest sporting event on the DF calendar, the annual An Cosantóir 10K road race. All this, plus our regular features: Tac-Aide, Gear Up, Noticeboard, Reviews, and What I Do. Finally, check out our competitions and results on pages 40 and 43.
